暑い毎日が続いておりますが、会員のみなさまいかがお過ごしでしょうか。
先月のこととなりますが、米国ヘミングウェイ学会（The Hemingway Society）による第20回国際学会がスペイン（サンセバスチャンおよびビルバオ）にて開催され（7月14日～20日）、日本ヘミングウェイ協会からも多くの会員が研究発表のために参加しました。
詳しい学会レポートは次号ニューズレターにて3名の参加者より報告がありますが、今回の国際学会が特に日本ヘミングウェイ協会にとって特別だったのは、日本におけるヘミングウェイ研究に焦点をあてたパネルが開催されたことです（発表者：フェアバンクス香織さん、柳沢秀郎さん、古谷裕美さん、司会はHemingway Societyの会長Carl Ebyさん）。Carl Ebyさんによる導入部では、30年前の国際学会で同じパネルで発表をした第二代会長・今村楯夫さんとの写真もスクリーンに映し出されました。次号ニューズレター掲載の学会レポートではこのパネルの詳細、および他パネルや各種催しのご報告はもちろんのこと、『日はまた昇る』(The Sun Also Rises)の舞台パンプローナ訪問記や、短編「白い象のような山なみ」(“Hills Like White Elephants”)のモデルとなった地の写真なども掲載予定です。
