Layさん、ご出版おめでとうございます!

Hemingway, Ecology and Culture: Re-reading Hemingway in the Anthropocene is the first monograph to amplify the voices of nonhuman entities that have long remained silent in his literary landscapes. Lay Sion NG bridges Hemingway studies with Environmental Humanities, employing a rich theoretical toolkit spanning material ecocriticism, disability studies, color ecology, soil ethics, environmental history, eco-gothic, and posthumanism to expand Hemingway’s conception of “humanity” fundamentally. Through close readings of The Sun Also RisesA Farewell to ArmsFor Whom the Bell TollsThe Old Man and the SeaThe Garden of Eden, “The Snows of Kilimanjaro,” and “A Natural History of the Dead,” Ng constructs a compelling case for reading Hemingway’s imaginative writing as “cultural ecology”—a reframing that directly confronts the anthropocentric, hyper-masculine “papa” mythology dominating American literary scholarship. This reframing reveals a Hemingway who emerges not as the archetypal masculine author but as an environmental thinker whose work anticipates our current ecological crisis.
