□ヘミングウェイの生涯の簡単な紹介

1899年イリノイ州オーク・パークに生まれる。高校卒業後、Kansas City Star紙の記者になり、辞職後、赤十字の一員としてイタリアに渡るも、負傷を負って帰国。その後パリに渡り、ガートルード・スタイン(Gertrude Stein)らとの出会いをきっかけに本格的に創作の道へと入ることになる。短編集In Our Time 『われらの時代に』(1925)が好評を博し、1926年に発表したThe Sun Also Rises 『日はまた昇る』（1926）、A Farewell to Arms 『武器よさらば』（1929）で作家としての地位を不動のものとする。1930年代に入るとDeath in the Afternoon 『午後の死』（1932）、Green Hills of Africa 『アフリカの緑の丘』（1934）などを発表。この時期には様々な雑誌に登場し、世間では作家としてだけではなく、名士としても認知されるようになる。批評家と作品の評価および政治的信条をめぐり衝突することが多くなるが、For Whom the Bell Tolls 『誰が為に鐘は鳴る』（1940）で復活を遂げる。52年にはThe Old Man and the Sea 『老人と海』を発表し、54年にはノーベル賞を受賞する。健康及び精神状態が悪化し1961年にアイダホ州ケチャムで猟銃自殺を遂げ、生涯を終える。
